Eliza Clay began as Hanover Ridge Pottery, originally launched in rural Eastern Ohio. Clay body is mid to high-fired Stoneware fired to temperatures ranging from approximately 2,200-2,380 degrees F. Pots are rooted in Japanese and English forms and fueled by my love for wind, weather and water.
As this website is a work in progress and a “shopping cart” system is in the works, my ordering system is via direct messages. To order, email me/ fill out the form!
A firm believer in the importance of beauty in the everyday, I’m always trying to merge beauty + function. My wheel-thrown pottery, ranging from tea bowls and children’s water-cups to large vases and salad bowls, is created primarily for the home, suitable for little and large hands alike (inspired by children who imitate) and artfully created homes with several practical needs.
I also have my own signature dishes such as the Tiny Cups for Tiny Hands, Tea-Steeping Bowls and Table Sea Salt Pots.
All dishes are oven, dishwasher and microwave safe. They are also non toxic, so are safe for all kitchen/tabletop use. My colors and various lines are evolving, so check back at the home page for updates.
Eliza Clay is offering custom pottery for restaurants, gardeners, cafes and florists, so if there’s something in particular you’re looking to have made, I’d love to collaborate! Some examples of my range as a potter are: slab vases for walls, accent bud vases and shorter dining room table vases, gorgeous cocktail cups, whisky-sipping cups and sushi + sake dishes! I also love to collaborate with blacksmiths, leather-smiths and wood workers. If interested, fill out the form below or just email me here: email@example.com
The shells used for decoration on the sides of my pottery I collected from the shores of the Puget Sound here in Washington State. The spirit, coastlines and music of of Scotland, Ireland and England where I lived for a while is a huge influence on my work. On my smaller pots, I sign with my Celtic ring ( pictured below in the collage) that I bought at age 18 from a silversmith in Edinburgh. It has mysteriously stayed with me throughout all these years despite losing every other piece of jewelry… (Ask me the story sometime of it’s loss and incredible discovery a decade+ later…)
I draw inspiration from potters Bernard Leach, Shoji Hamada, Warren MacKenzie, Michael Cardew…to name a few… I currently fire my work at c/6 Electric but my goal is to to do woodfiring in climbing chamber kilns such as the Anagama.
